LACMA - ラクマ

随分久しぶりにLos Angeles County Museum of Art (通称LACMA)に仕事の後に立ち寄ってみた。オフィスのすぐ隣にあるのに数回しか行った事がない。
The other day, I stopped at Los Angeles County of Museum (LACMA) after work. It had been a while since I visited threr last time. Despite the fact that my office is only 5 minutes away, I have visited this museum few times.

入り口付近にあるストリートライトのインスタレーションは、普段街中にある外灯を集め、
それらで道を作り、小さな街を形成している。
Street Lights installation at the entrance is a small city consists of many street lights that are usually placed on the streets in a city.


見上げると、雲に映る夕日が幻想的だった。
Setting sun was coloring the clouds and creating a fantastic sky above me.



まず最初に、ＰＯＭＰＥＩＩ展へ。イタリアのナポリから電車で１時間ほどだったと思う。１３年前に一度行った事がある。１９３０年前に火山灰で町中埋め尽くされ、一瞬にして消えてしまった街。公衆トイレ、商店、娼婦の館まであり、下水道も作られていた。現在でもまだ発掘されていない部分がかなり多く残っている。
At first, I visited Pompeii exhibition. I remember that it was about 1 hour from Napoli, Italy. I visited there about 13 years ago. The whole Pompeii city was suddenly buried under the ash when volcano exploded 1930 years ago. Pompeii's city development was remarkable, and they had public restrooms, retail stores, whore houses and sewer lines. Large portion of this city has not been excavated yet.

そんな大昔に作られた大理石の像を見て、今の人類とあまり変わりない事に改めて気付き、
”約２０００年前というのは、そんなに昔の事ではないのかも知れない”と思った。
１９９５年の高速道路建設の際に新たに発掘された壁画も飾られており、きちんと残っている鮮やかな色彩に驚かされた。
When I was staring a human head marble sculpture, I noticed that a human figure has not been changed so much in the last 2000 years, then I thought
"2000 years may not be that far from today...".
In 1995, some new murals were found during a high way construction. I was surprised again by the vivid colors remaining on the wall.



その後は常設の展示へ。夜は入場料は無く、ドネーションだけで入れる。
（注：ＰＯＭＰＥＩＩ展は$20の入場料あり）
After that, I walked to a general exhibition. There is no admission fee at night except donation.
(Pompeii exhibition is $20)

歩き疲れたのでRothkoの前で休憩。
I took a bread in front of Rothko.



夜７時半。殆ど誰もいない美術館で色々な作品に囲まれて座っていると、とても落ち着く。
無数の作品にたった＄１で囲まれてのんびり出来る、最高の贅沢。
It was 7:30 P.M.. I was sitting on a bench while being surrounded by the art in the nearly empty museum. It was such a relaxing, and rich moment for $1.



自分の靴音だけが室内に響き渡る。
Only sounds of my footsteps echoed in the room.


その後新館に行き、Richard Serraの作品の中に。
After that, I went to a new building and walked into a Richard Serra's work.

こういうデコレーションが無く、フォームと建材の質感だけで作られる空間を
自分達ももっと推して行きたいと思う。
We will try to pursue the beauty of interior spaces created only by the form and material.

美術館を訪れても、一つ一つの作品の前であまり時間を費やす事はない。
それよりも、その場の雰囲気を楽しみに行く。
こんなに近いのだから、これからはもっと頻繁に訪れてみようと思った。

I don't usually spend a lot of time in front of one art piece because I rather go there to enjoy the atmosphere. Since my office is very close, I thought I should visit here more often.
